Lekker McDonalds!

Just a House |
Lekker means a lot of things in Dutch. I mean a lot of things; delicious;
tasty; yummy; appetizing; scrumptious; palatable; appetizing; pleasant;
enjoyable; nice; agreeable; exquisite; very tasteful; delightful; and heavenly
are really only a few definitions. In a
cab today we heard "Lekker McDonalds!" in a commercial on the radio. I am quite certain this is one use of the
word never uttered on the streets of a city that sells chopped raw eels with
onions, of course, at food stands.
We arrived in Amsterdam at 9 am this morning and found our
bag after 10 am. With all the
construction at Schiphol, it took us nearly that long to get to the baggage
claim. Looking innocent, we walked past
customs (aside—why do I feel guilty when I have nothing to smuggle?) and headed
for a snack. We quickly checked off 4
foods from the culinary list. A bottle
of Hero Cassis (black currant pop), a bottle of Spa sparkling water, an apple
turnover and an almond filled cookie.
Later that day, lunch was over-easy eggs covering ham, cheese, and
bread. Behold the beloved uitsmijter! The ultimate hangover cure, so I'm told.
For mid-October, the weather was quite
lekker today.
It was overcast and breezy.
On our way home, it started to rain.
Ahh, Amsterdam, I remember thee well.
